Comparison of spatial orientation skill between real and virtual environment

چکیده

Abstract Virtual reality (VR) is a promising tool and increasingly used in many different fields, which virtual walking can be generalized through detailed modeling of the physical environment such as sports science, medicine furthermore. However, visualization using head-mounted display (HMD) differs compared to reality, it still not clear whether visual perception works equally within VR. The purpose current study compare spatial orientation between real world (RW) Therefore, participants had walk blindfolded placed objects environment, did differ properties. They were equipped with passive markers track position back their hand, was specify each object’s location. first task from one starting sport-specific requiring degrees rotation after observing them for 15 s (0°, 45°, 180°, 225°). three-way ANOVA repeated measurements indicated no significant difference RW VR ( p > 0.05). In addition, asked three times new two objects, ordered differently during conditions. Except case, differences pathways found This supports that use ensures similar behavior real-world interactions its authorization use.

Maintaining Spatial Orientation during Travel in an Immersive Virtual Environment

An experiment is presented comparing the effects of various virtual travel techniques in an immersive virtual environment (VE) on the spatial orientation of users. The experiment was designed and implemented in the context of a formal framework for the design and evaluation of VE travel techniques. Subjects traveled through virtual corridors, noting the location of objects along the way, and we...

Spatial Updating of Self-position and Orientation during Real, Imagined, and Virtual Locomotion

Two studies investigated updating of self-position and heading during real, imagined, and simulated locomotion. Subjects were exposed to a two-segment path with a turn between segments; they responded by turning to face the origin as they would i f they had walked the path and were at the end of the second segment. The conditions of pathway exposure included physical walking, imagined walking f...

Multisensory virtual environment for supporting blind persons’ acquisition of spatial cognitive mapping, orientation, and mobility skills

Mental mapping of spaces, and of the possible paths for navigating these spaces, is essential for the development of efficient orientation and mobility skills. Most of the information required for this mental mapping is gathered through the visual channel. Blind people lack this crucial information and in consequence face great difficulties (a) in generating efficient mental maps of spaces, and...
